Business skills training for language professionals

Most translators and interpreters are freelancers, which means running a business alongside practising a profession — and the business side is rarely taught. This page collects training on the commercial skills that make a freelance practice sustainable: setting and defending rates, negotiating with agencies and direct clients, marketing without a marketing budget, writing proposals, managing contracts and terms, and handling the administrative and tax realities of self-employment. There is also material on the softer edges of the work, such as managing difficult clients, saying no to unsuitable jobs, and building a referral network. Sessions are typically short and practical, often run by experienced freelancers. Skilliga is free to use, volunteer-run, and carries no paid placements.
