Introduction

Welcome to Skilliga. This page explains how we look after your data when you visit.

Who is responsible for your data

Monika Kokoszycka, a freelance conference interpreter and one of your colleagues, runs Skilliga and is responsible for how your data is handled. Any questions, drop us a line at contact@skilliga.com.

What we collect

We don't need to know who you are. A pen name, alias, or entirely fictitious email address is perfectly fine. You can create an account for collections or listings without sharing anything real.

If you create an account, we ask for an email address and nothing else. If you sign in via Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We do not access your contacts, Google Drive files, or any other personal data stored in your Google account. When you sign in via Google, we handle your data, including any onward transfer, in line with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

If you subscribe to the newsletter, your email address is all we collect.

We also collect standard technical data (IP address, browser type, and similar) for troubleshooting, and with your consent we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is being used and to improve it. We hold data only for as long as it is needed, and you can ask us to delete your account and all associated data at any time.

In legal terms, we process your data on the basis of your consent (newsletter and analytics cookies), our legitimate interest in running and improving the service (technical and usage data), and the performance of the service you signed up for (account data).

Third-party services

We use three external services to run Skilliga: Google Firebase, for accounts and database; Brevo, for emails and the newsletter; and Google Analytics, for site usage analysis (only with your consent). All three are US-based and work under data protection agreements that meet UK and EU requirements.

Cookies

Essential cookies keep the site working (for example, keeping you logged in). We only use analytics cookies if you give us permission via the cookie banner.

If you subscribe, we use your email address to send you CPD updates relevant to the interpreting and translation community. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. We do not share your address with anyone or use it for anything other than the newsletter.

Your rights

You can ask us to see, correct, or delete your data at any time. Just email contact@skilliga.com and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. And if you ever feel we haven't handled things fairly, you also have the right to raise a complaint with a data protection authority.
