BCLT Literary Translation Workshop: What effect do illustrations and layout have on the translation process? How do style, ethics and research feature in the translation of non-fiction? In this workshop Josephine Murray will take us through creative exercises based on Myths, Cities and Nature by Manon Bucciarelli (Harper Collins, 2026 and 2025) to explore the translation of illustrated non-fiction children's books.

Translating Children’s Illustrated Non-Fiction Books with Josephine Murray
Josephine Murray is a graduate of the UEA MA in Literary Translation and a French to English literary translator specialising in children’s literature and culinary texts. Alongside this she is an award-nominated freelance journalist writing about a variety of subjects for national magazines. She has taught French, German and Spanish in secondary schools, and previously worked as a cook.
Her translation work includes three illustrated children’s non-fiction books by Manon Bucciarelli for Harper Collins; Nature, Cities and Myths and, with Miranda Richmond Mouillot, Anne-Sophie Pic’s food memoir/manifesto Suffusion for Hachette.
