Join the CIOL Interpreting Division for an insightful online session on Strategic Use of ASR in Interpreting.

Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) can support interpreters in demanding situations, but it can also negatively affect performance and professional agency if used without critical reflection. This presentation and Q&A explores common challenges in ASR-assisted interpreting and evidence-informed strategies for integrating ASR as an interpreting aid. It discusses how to balance mistrust and overreliance, understand the limitations of ASR, and make deliberate, goal-driven decisions about when and how to use ASR tools in the interpreting process.
