This short course, delivered in Italian, will explore the Italian contributions to painting during the Middle Ages, providing essential background knowledge for students of art and history.

Each lesson will be devoted to a particular artist or group of artists who are representative of their time. The first module of 5 lessons will cover medieval painting in Italy and focus on artists such as Cimabue, Giotto, Simone Martini, Pisanello, Gentile da Fabriano.
The first part of each session will be a lecture about the artist, their life and work. The historical and social context will be also analysed in order to better understand each artist’s background, work and thinking. A group discussion and themed-based language activities will follow the lecture.
