Life Journey of an Extraordinary Woman in Germany and England in the 20thC

Tisa von der Schulenburg (1903–2001) led an extraordinary life spanning Germany and England in the twentieth century. Born into a Prussian aristocratic family, she studied art in Berlin and Paris before fleeing Nazi Germany with her Jewish husband to England. There she taught art among mining communities in Durham and supported the British miners' movement. During the war she became stranded in Germany, while her brother Fritz-Dietlof von der Schulenburg joined the resistance against Hitler. After the war, she converted to Catholicism, became an Ursuline nun, and devoted her life as an artist and humanitarian, championing miners in Germany's Ruhr region and people in need around the world.
