How does legal interpreting work in a country with 50 states, multiple court systems,

tribal jurisdictions, and a population that speaks hundreds of languages?

This webinar offers a practical journey through legal interpreting in the United States.

Beginning with the historical foundations of the American system, we will explore its

three levels of government and the federal, state, local, and tribal courts where

interpreters work.

We will examine the country’s multilingual reality and what it means for access to

business, government services, and justice. The webinar will cover constitutional and

statutory protections for language access, the languages most frequently needed,

interpreter qualifications and certification, and how the profession is regulated across

jurisdictions.

Finally, we will look ahead, considering how demographic shifts, technology and AI,

professional trends, and changing political and cultural attitudes may shape the future of

legal interpreting in the United States.
