Full description

Are you interested in a language career, but don't have any foreign language up your sleeve? Are you a talented bilingual or multilingual, but not sure where to go with those amazing talents? Are you a cinephile who dreams of rubbing shoulders with films directors and script writers? Are you a Youtube or Tiktok aficionado who would like to raise your profile by subtitling your clips? If this sounds like you, then come and join us and our guest speakers online (the Zoom link will be sent close to the date) or in person at Heriot-Watt University's Edinburgh campus: LUMSDEN Suite North, Edinburgh Business School, EH14 4AS.

Come and discover the different careers paths in audiovisual translation: timecoder, transcriber, audio description, Subtitling for the Deaf and Hard of hearing, and many more. All of these are a form of translation, even within the same language, e.g. transfer from a visual mode into a written mode still requires translation skills.

Our guest speakers in this session are all practitioners who will be sharing their experience and providing tips to anyone aspiring to get a foot in the door of this thriving industry.
We will try to take as many questions as possible on the day, but to make sure your question is unmissed, go ahead and post it on our Event questions forum. You can also use this link during the event:
